Last weekend I had a wonderful time photographing Helena and Kevin’s wedding in Clifton, Bristol. Helena and Kevin’s flat overlooks the city and is a real sun trap so when I arrived to take some pictures with the girls, they had the balcony doors open enjoying the spring sunshine (and a glass of bubbles!). Helena’s dress was a beautiful proper princess dress that she and her Mum had picked up in Oxfam of all places – what a find! As with a lot of brides, she had initially thought she’d like a more slinky evening style dress and then fell in love with her dress when she saw it and tried it on. It happens to a lot of us!
I used to live up on the Downs when I lived in town and it was lovely to drive along down the Downs road, past all my old haunts to the Catholic Cathedral to see Kevin and the boys. I wasn’t long before the girls appeared in a gorgeous cream wedding car and we just managed to get Helena inside dodging a heavy shower. The cathedral has lovely light and beautiful stained glass so is a really nice building to photograph in and it was great to see the English and Taiwanese families chatting together. The service was really lovely and I watched some of it from up on the balcony which gives a wonderful view of the congregation. It was so nice to have the freedom to take whatever shots I wanted – as I could think much more creatively than if there are restrictions on photography. We then did some photographs outside on the steps of everyone before heading to the zoo for the drinks reception and some photographs in the fabulous gardens. The zoo is such an interesting place to photograph and always looks different so I had a wander around with Kevin and Helena on their own. We found a beautiful magnolia in flower which turned out to be Helena’s favourite flower, which was a lovely background and to finish we even had a bit of fun with the meercats before dinner was called!
