Bristol has been pretty busy the past few weekends with the balloon fiesta and families wandering around doing the Gromit trail. last weekend, I managed to see 3 Gromits in a row just by walking over to the Radisson Blu Hotel, where Fern was getting ready, from my car in Queen’s Square – it was a fun start to the morning and really nice to see people out and about enjoying themselves. I was also really pleased it was dry and sunny as I was very much looking forward to taking photographs up at the zoo later in the day.
Fern, her parents and her bridesmaids and daughter Amelie were upstairs on the tenth floor which has great views out over the city and there was a real buzz with everyone’s hair and make up being done and dresses being put on. Amelie even had two dresses, which I am sure anyone with a one year old will appreciate! Fern’s bridesmaids had made a beautiful box for her full of little thoughtful things and messages about married life including a Pritt Stick to ‘keep them stuck together’ – which I thought was very sweet.
I then headed up to Bristol Zoo to catch up with Matt and the boys as guests started to arrive. The Zoo Pavilion looked really beautiful laid out for the ceremony with the decorated plant pots Fern had designed and it’s such a big light airy room, it has a lovely feel even as it’s filling up with people! Matt was having a great time chatting to the boys and to guests and before long Fern arrived and the ceremony began. It was really nice for me to be able to take what pictures I wanted to during the ceremony, albeit in a very discrete way. Fern and Matt looked so happy for most of the ceremony, but I am always on the look out for the emotional moments as well and I was not disappointed!
Afterwards, Amelie stole the show by toddling in the aisle – what a cutie pie! – and everyone went downstairs for drinks out in the garden. Fern and Matt were keen to have a few pictures of the two of them in the zoo’s lovely grounds so we went for a wander before coming back for dinner. After dinner and the speeches and when the zoo was closed to the public, people took their wine glasses and headed off for another wander around looking at the animals. I don’t think I have seen anything quite like it despite having been to the zoo for years – two baby lions were sitting right on the edge of their enclosure and it made for some amazing shots of Fern Matt and Amelie with them.
Here are some of my favourite images from their day:
