It’s not every day you get to photograph a masked ball at a castle for an actress….!  When I was studying photography I did a whole project in Venice and bought a mask while I was there as they were exquisite. For her birthday masked ball, Teresa had made a set of masks by hand and also brought some from Venice in all sizes and colours. When I arrived at Thornbury Castle, guests were just arriving for afternoon tea and admiring the masks all laid out for them. There were lots of different styles so a bit tricky to decide on the perfect mask to match your outfit. I say tricky, but it actually looked great fun!  Many friends and family had flown in from all over the world for the weekend so it was a chance to catch up with people over a cup of tea and some cake – what a perfect start to a birthday treat!

After a delicious afternoon tea, everyone got ready for dinner and there were some amazing gowns as well as all the beautiful masks.  A face can look quite different with a mask on so I was spotting who was who from earlier.  The theme for the evening was red roses, so the castle was decked out in roses and lit up with red lights – very glamorous and romantic!  Guests were treated to Rose Champagne and there was a totally fabulous looking white chocolate and rose cake which smelled amazing.  During dinner I wandered around and took some pictures of everyone clearly having a great time and of course everyone sang Happy Birthday!  Here are a few favourite images.

Coming up next is Hannah and Chris’ wedding…
